Introduction to Israelism
What is Israelism? Is it a notion, or a phenomena? Does it refer to a certain place or time? Is it a term that indicates a sense of belonging to a land or a nation? Does it have implications on other fields? Does it have its own aesthetics? What does it look like? Is it fueled by a certain mechanism? Or motivation? Ideology? How does it effect the artistic process and the contemporary Artist's role today? Or does it at all? During the course of my study and my artistic practice , I have developed a personal point of view regarding this issue and the way in which it manifests itself in Israel, by means of the use of images that symbolize national memory. As an artist living in Israel 2014, I can point out from my contemporary practice the existence of a visual language. A language structured as a form of images which endorsed by social-political- systems in order to construct of collective identity, assimilation of social messages, values and designing a collective subconscious. The intention is not to the method of indoctrination as practiced in social regimes, but for a visual language that appropriated for the purposes of standardization of social, ideological and historical ideas.
