The III Summer Academy for Artistic Research was held July 31th– August 10th 2014.The venue for SAAR 2014 was Hanasaari – the Swedish-Finnish Culture Centre in the City of Espoo, Finland. The Summer Academy was arranged and coordinated by the University of Arts Helsinki. All together 16 Doctoral Students from 3 different countries, Finland, Sweden and Norway, participated in SAAR 2014.
Taiteellisen tutkimuksen III kesäkoulu järjestettiin 31.7.–10.8.2014 Hanasaaren ruotsalais-suomalaisessa kulttuurikeskuksessa Espoossa. Kesäkoulun järjestäjänä toimi Taideyliopisto, Helsinki. Kesäkouluun osallistui 16 tohtorikoulutettavaa kolmesta eri maasta: Suomesta, Ruotsista sekä Norjasta.
Den III Sommarakademin för konstnärlig forskning arrangerades 31.7–10.8.2014. Akademin gick av stapeln på Hanaholmen – kulturcentrum för Sverige och Finland, i Esbo stad, Finland. SAAR 2014 arrangerades och koordinerades av Konstuniversitetet i Helsingfors. Inalles 16 doktorander från 3 olika länder, Finland, Sverige och Norge deltog i sommarakademin.
The aim of SAAR is to discuss in depth participants’ doctoral projects within the developing discourses of art practice and research. The Summer Academy provides a supportive setting where artist-researchers from all fields collaborate, present their ongoing artistic work and research and receive feedback from experienced tutors and peers from leading academic institutions. The academy aims to reflect the international diversity and scope of artistic research and to provide a stimulating intellectual environment. It seeks to clarify, discuss and develop further emerging themes and issues arising out of the individual doctoral projects of the participants within the framework of artistic research.
The versatile activities include individual presentations of the participants’ projects, discussions and feedback in plenary sessions and working groups, individual tutoring and collective work. The working language is English.
A “One day trip” to St. Petersburg will be offered as a part of the Summer School curriculum. The Doctoral Students will have a opportunity to visit Manifesta 10 at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
